Festina Lente Enterprises CLG is a long-established social enterprise delivering inclusive personal and social development programmes for individuals affected by disability and/or socio-economic disadvantage. Since 1986, we have provided Equine Assisted Services (EAS), now encompassing six distinct programmes, including a highly successful Equine Outreach Programme that reaches mental health hospitals, DEIS schools, and nursing homes.
In 2020, we identified a gap in accessible, community-based wellbeing supports—particularly for young people at risk of social exclusion. In response, we introduced Social and Therapeutic Horticulture (STH), an internationally recognised, evidence-based intervention that uses structured gardening and nature-based activities to promote mental health, emotional regulation, and social skills. STH has been shown through numerous studies (including those by Thrive UK and social prescribing initiatives in the UK and Europe) to improve confidence, reduce anxiety, and enhance connection, particularly among those facing disadvantage, disability, or mental health challenges.
A registered charity, based in Co. Wicklow we employ over 60 staff who are passionate about this mission to enable people to achieve their personal best through the medium of horses, nature and community inclusion.
