Are you Bornholms Hospital’s new Specialist in Pulmonary Medicine?

The Medical Department at Bornholms Hospital wishes to engage a specialist in pulmonary medicine, who will start working on 1 May 2014 or following agreement on the terms laid down in the labour market agreement.

The pulmonary function is handled specifically by bed unit A2, which – in addition to lung patients – also has patients with oncological and hematological diseases. The unit also has a palliative section, where we expect to develop the palliation principles, including open admission, to include COPD patients on an equal footing with cancer patients. We would very much like you to leave your mark on this development.

The pulmonary outpatient unit is located within the bed unit and is run by the regular pulmonary specialist together with external lung medicine specialists and a lung medicine nurse. The department has wished to continue the arrangement according to which the chronically ill are on the same footing as cancer patients and thus have a close connection to the staff that has the right competences and is recognised from previous contacts in the bed unit and the outpatient unit.

As a specialist in pulmonary medicine, you will be seeing everything within a broad spectrum of pulmonary medicine incl. COPD, asthma, TB, primary infiltrate investigation, etc., in close cooperation with the Region’s other pulmonary medicine departments, which deal with the invasive examinations.

Bornholms Hospital is the only hospital on the island. The Medical Department thus receives a very broad, unsorted clientele of patients in the field of internal medicine. The Medical Department houses a number of specialities – including cardiology, pulmonary medicine, endocrinology, neurology, nephrology with a dialysis function, and oncology.

The Medical Department consists of 3 bed units with a total of 58 bds. Each unit covers its own specialities combined with mixed internal medicine. In addition, we have a large outpatient function, which is handled by our regular physicians and by specialist consultants from other of the Region’s hospitals in such fields as rheumatology, hematology, oncology, etc.

Wide range of assignments
In addition to the daily work of walking rounds and working in the outpatient unit, the specialist must form part of a shared duty scheme together with all other specialities, where the specialist is on call, but is not at the hospital. The number of specialists forming part of this scheme is 6-8, which means that each specialist is on call every sixth weekend.

The position involves busy, interesting everyday work together with good, stable, committed and competent staff members and colleagues. A friendly atmosphere in an open environment with close daily cooperation allows great influence on the organisation and management of your work.

Furthermore, the Medical Department is a department that is involved in training junior physicians in clinical basic training, as well as so-called block and introductory training positions. In addition, we also regularly welcome medical students for periods of clinical attendance. Consequently, you have to be prepared to act as a councilor and to teach as part of your daily work.

It is condition for being engaged that the applicant is deemed to be professionally competent for the position in accordance with the guidelines of the Capital Region for assessing of the professional qualifications of applicants for senior consultant positions. Furthermore, it is a condition for engagement that a clean so-called "child certificate" can be obtained (confirmation from authorities that the person has not committed any sexual crimes against children).

Employment will be in accordance with the labour market agreement for senior consultants concluded between the association of specialist physicians (FAS) and the Salaries and Rates Board of the Danish Regions.

The application should be designed to make it possible to assess your experience and educational background in regard to the seven roles of specialists: professional medical expertise, communication, cooperation, management and administration, health promotion, academic standard and professionalism.
