Software Developer for the Digital Humanities Research Unit (Fondazione Bruno Kessler)
The activities of the research unit “Digital Humanities” (DH) are mainly focused on the development and implementation of techniques for semantic analysis of texts and their application to inter-disciplinary projects, in collaboration with social and political scientists, history scholars, education and cultural heritage institutions. Another topic of interest is the study of language complexity, both in diachronic and synchronic perspective, and its impact on automated text simplification. The candidate will work in the scope of the European project PROTECTOR, which aims to design, develop and deliver novel technologies and solutions to enhance the protection of all places of worship in Europe. Specifically, the activities will aim at developing and integrating the technologies for collecting data related to religious hatred from social media and analyzing them, putting them in connection with religious-based rumours and fake news.
Requirements:
• M.Sc. in Computer Engineering or Computer Science (or equivalent degrees);
• Very good programming skills, preferably Python and/or Java;
• Good command of existing natural language processing tools and pipelines (e.g. Stanza, CoreNLP) as well as of libraries for deep learning applied to text analysis (e.g. TensorFlow, HuggingFace, PyTorch);
• Past work experience in a research environment;
• Very good oral and written English and Italian;
• Team work attitude;
• Good communication and relational skills
Employment: Fixed term contract, full time.
