As Shared Engineering Services Consultant Metals, you are responsible for delivering high-quality services, linked to the competence domain of metals. These services consist of qualification, problem solving, co-engineering, research and development, giving advice and training. The strength of the team is based on specialized knowledge, its application to specific problems within Atlas Copco Airpower and a customer-oriented approach.
You are part of the Materials team, which consists of different experts in the domains of Metals, Coatings, Lubricants, Polymers & Composites, Air, Gas & Water. The Materials team belongs to the Shared Engineering Services Department of the Airtec division. Tasks/responsibilities:
- To carry out, independently, material research, e.g. failure analysis, malfunctions or problems, material & process qualification, research on metal parts, castings, corrosion, welding quality, bearings, surface treatments, coatings, material selection, ...
- To be part of engineering projects, where material aspects have a fundamental importance, starting from identifying and preparing up to executing the project, and all this within budget and time plan.
- To provide metal expertise to internal clients.
- To report the working procedure, results, conclusions and recommendations to the internal client, adapted to his expectations.
- To keep informed of the evolutions on the market. Monitoring, assessing, reporting and introducing new materials, technologies and analysis techniques.
- To build a network with research institutes, suppliers and universities.
- To actively manage customer satisfaction: clearly communicate about the results, costs and planning.
- To identify opportunities for improvement or extension of our services.
- To preserve knowledge through documentation of best practices.
- To stear laboratory technicians, test engineers and interns.

Initially, you will carry out tasks according to established procedures for known issues. Later on, you will apply an established or a new procedure for new problems.
You perform the tasks autonomously in close cooperation with colleagues.
You report to the team leader of the Materials Lab.
