The role The Data Center team designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical and HVAC systems in the world. Facilities Technicians on this team operate, monitor and support all facilities activity at Google's data centers. You take ownership of the operation and maintenance of water pumps and treatment systems, HVAC, UPS, generators, electrical distribution and control and monitoring Systems. You're at the forefront of best-in-class environmental practices. You bring the ideas of our Data Center Engineers to life and develop creative approaches to reducing operational costs while improving efficiencies. You ensure that problems are identified and repaired quickly, that contractors deliver quality services and preventive maintenance, and that safety measures are being performed. In emergency situations or abnormal conditions, you respond to data center performance issues and outages to minimize the recovery time from failures. Responsibilities - Provide effective shift leadership for successful critical system troubleshooting, unit commissioning, repairs/replacements with little to no supervision in quality, quantity and timeliness as assigned. - Operate critical plant equipment as authorized by facilities manager. - Provide coordination/input for global facilities programs such as CMMS, BMS, vibration analysis, training and thermography. - Responds to critical data center events and alarms in accordance with ERGs and is responsible for being a point of escalation on operational issues. Minimum qualifications - BA/BS degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience. Preferred qualifications - Extensive relevant experience in facilities in a critical environment or you will hold a license/certification in at least one MEP discipline with experience at journeyman level. - Demonstrated solid direct supervisory/manager experience with an assigned technical team. - Excellent oral and written communication skills in English (an additional European language would be an advantage).
