PhD position in Service Life Prediction of Existing Concrete StructuresFakultet for teknologi, kunst og design, Institutt for Bygg- og energiteknikkThe Faculty of Technology, Art and Design, Department of Civil Engineering and Energy Technology is looking for a motivated PhD candidate with a master's degree within structural concrete engineering. The vacant PhD research fellowship position has a duration of 4 years with 25% of the time assigned to supervision task of BSc projects at the Department of Civil Engineering and Energy TechnologyThe Department has about 500 students and 30 staff members. For more information about the faculty, see our website: http://www.hioa.no.The PhD position is located at HiOA's Department of Civil Engineering in Oslo. However, the candidate will be enrolled in the PhD Programme at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Department of structural engineering, in Trondheim. The position will involve a stay of about one year at this host institution. The applicants must qualify for admission to the actual PhD Programme.Area of researchThe PhD research project should fall within the research area; Service life prediction and numerical simulations of deteriorated reinforced concrete structures. Documented knowledge and experience within the topics; "2D and 3D non-linear finite element analyses of reinforced concrete structures", "residual capacity and repair of deteriorated concrete structures" and "concrete technology" will be emphasized.Qualifications and requirementsThe following qualifications are required:aster's degree in Civil engineering, structural concrete engineering, or related fields combining structural engineering and concrete technology, with an average grade B or better.Ability to work independently and goal-oriented.Ability to communicate fluently in English, both verbally and in writing. One Scandinavian language is preferred.The applicant must submit a research project proposal of no more than 5 pages. The proposal must indicate that the project will realistically lead to a doctoral degree within the four-year period. The project proposal may be written in a Scandinavian language or in English. The project proposal should include a presentation of possible research questions, relevant theory, methodological approach, and a progress plan for the proposed doctoral projectThe final project plan and PhD study plan for the PhD fellowship period are required to be completed, approved by the supervisor and acknowledged by the PhD host institution within 3 months after commencement of the position.ConditionsApplicants will be assessed on the basis of academic background and results, and any previous research and development work. The project proposal will be an important component in the assessment of the applicants. Working experience from relevant engineering and construction industry is an advantage.
