Development Chemist – Route Design

We are looking for an outstanding synthetic chemist to join the department of Route Design, as a Process Chemist. This offers a great opportunity to be part of a great team and become a Process Chemist in the Department of Route Design at the Lundbeck Research Centre in Copenhagen Denmark (DK), and help develop new medicines to treat Central Nervous System (CNS) diseases.

Route Design is a key component of Process Chemistry, which is part of the Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (CMC) organization in Copenhagen Denmark (DK), where our goal is to develop new synthetic routes of novel Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API). The area of Process Chemistry is fully integrated encompassing Route Scouting, Process Optimization, Scale Up, Safety assessment, and GMP manufacture.

Your job and key responsibilities

As a Process Chemist in the Department of Route Design you will be involved in many aspects of the development value chain. You will be working in a strong team environment within Route Design. As a skilled Synthetic Organic Chemist, you will have an excellent opportunity to directly impact our development programs through design of novel syntheses of compounds coming from Research. Focusing on developing new synthetic processes for API formation, which are directly transferable to further scale up, due to their inherent robust, scalable, safe, and environmentally acceptable character. Furthermore, the job also includes synthesis of e.g. metabolites, impurities, and PET precursors either directly or via the support of CRO’s. You will be working in a strong team environment and the role will allow you to learn the trade of process chemistry.

Qualifications and competencies

Our preferred candidate has the following personal and professional attributes:

  • You have a PhD in synthetic organic chemistry, potentially supplemented by postdoctoral studies
  • You have a proven track record in planning, developing, and enabling multistep organic syntheses 
  • You are innovative, thorough, and can envision and execute successful synthetic chemistry strategies
  • You thrive in a Team environment of shared goals and responsibilities
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to develop, implement, and clearly communicate chemistry strategies to team, management and collaborators in English language
