The Hytrel® Unit Manager is located at the Luxembourg site and is responsible for safe, ethical, legal and reliable operation of the Hytrel® production unit. The unit includes both polymerization and extrusion manufacturing assets. The unit manager provides direction for all aspects of the manufacturing unit including EHS & PSM (Right To Operate), production, process technology, maintenance, process & product quality and capital engineering. This role interfaces with business and site leadership to effectively allocate resources and is accountable for meeting business metrics including cost, yields, quality, production to schedule and uptime. The unit manager is responsible for driving continuous improvement in the operations to advance competitiveness of the assets.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Ensure the plant produces 24/7 safely, per plan, within budget and specifications, and in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Implement Process Safety Management (PSM) programs and/or other safety initiatives.
  • Provide direction to the production, maintenance and supporting technical organization Lead personnel/career development processes for the unit.
  • Develop/implement resource and infrastructure requirements to meet short and long term business needs (investment, personnel, etc)
  • Develop/implement productivity and process improvement projects utilizing practices such as Lean and Six Sigma.
  • Sponsor and drive strong quality management practices
  • Develop budget recommendations on capital investment and operating cost (5 year plans).
  • Develop/implement reliability improvement programs for the manufacturing unit.
  • Cultivate industrial relations with on/off site partners incl. labor unions

Qualifications/Competencies

  • Engineering Degree or relevant professional experience in chemical manufacturing industry
  • 10 years manufacturing experience with at least 4 years in operations supervisory role
  • Strong interpersonal and people leadership skills
  • Computer skills: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SAP
  • Languages: Fluency in English and German is a must; knowledge of French is considered as a plus
  • Six sigma green or black belt is preferred
  • Experience in operation of facilities under ISO 9001 quality and ISO 14001 Env. principle
  • High hazard/process safety management experience

Today, the DuPont location in Contern produces an array of highly innovative materials for industries as diverse as construction, printing, automotive and landscaping. The site has roughly 1000 employees, and expansion of its activities are foreseen with the new production line for the flagship product Tyvek®, which is used for protective garments, home wrap insulation and medical packaging to mention just a few applications. The new manufacturing line will become operational in 2020, and will require 120 new jobs in various positions.
