So, if you are establishing your career as scientist and you are looking for the best possible foundation for fulfilling your dreams and ambitions, this is your chance. In the Research group Foodborne pathogens and epidemiology at DTU, you will have the opportunity and freedom to break new ground at the absolute forefront on epidemiological modelling of foodborne infections as well as gaining experience with advisory service and teaching and supervision of undergraduates

Responsibilities and qualifications

As a researcher in our team, you will be responsible for building up skills in quantitative epidemiological modelling and microbiological risk assessment. The research topics will be in the field of zoonotic pathogens originating from food of terrestrial and aquatic animals. You might also contribute to other activities in the group, such as design and evaluation of surveillance systems incl. implementation of technological support tools for meat inspection. Also, you will contribute to the science-based advisory service that our institute is contracted to give to the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration (DVFA) to support their handling of the food legislation. Your work output, therefore, need to be of very high quality. A part of your time will be dedicated to reporting results from the National Surveillance of Zoonoses – and previous experience with that will be an advantage. You will work in co-operation with colleagues, but the position offers a high degree of academic independence, where you will be responsible for making progress within your tasks and projects. Your primary tasks will be to:

  • Conduct epidemiological analysis and microbiological risk assessments to support advisory service obligations for the food safety authorities
  • Commit to a learning process in either machine learning and coding in SQL or quantitative microbiological risk assessment and advanced coding in R
  • Edit and coordinate the process of publishing the Annual Report of Zoonoses in Denmark as well as collecting and reporting the same data to the European Food Safety Authority
  • Teach courses in epidemiology and supervise BSc and MSc student projects, and be co-supervisor for PhD students in quantitative epidemiological modelling
  • Contribute to the writing of research proposals and reports

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) in epidemiology and have a solid background in quantitative epidemiological modelling. A national and international network in this area is desirable. Your English and Danish oral and written skills should be good since you will be working with both academic and industrial partners in Denmark as well as abroad.
