Copenhagen Local / International Geoscience Ref.: MO-058220 Maersk Oil is seeking a Stratigraphic Technical Assurance Specialist to be part of the Exploration Excellence Team in the exploration department in Copenhagen. The team provides the technical assurance for all exploration opportunities in the Maersk Oil Portfolio. The purpose of the role is to be an integral part of the team responsible for assuring consistency, objectivity, and technical rigour in the risk and resource estimates that are used to characterize the exploration portfolio and are the basis of exploration decision making. The Exploration Excellence team will review all exploration opportunities across the full scope of the exploration process (basin, prospect, lead). The incumbent will therefore have an understanding of the complete exploration portfolio and input from the Exploration Excellence team will have a direct impact on exploration decision making and on the ability for Maersk Oil to reach its exploration objectives. Key Responsibilities As part of the Exploration Excellence Team, your key responsibilities will be to provide technical assurance for all exploration opportunities. This team is primarily focused on the validation of risk and resource estimates throughout the exploration process – from basin level analysis, to play analysis, to prospect evaluation – and your role will be to assure that the stratigraphic component of these evaluations is completed with the appropriate technical rigour and properly integrated into the overall understanding of the opportunity. The role will also include a component of establishing and maintaining the exploration technical standards in the area of stratigraphy, as well as mentoring other members of the exploration community in the application of stratigraphic principles in the search for oil. Who we are looking for • Minimum B. Sc. in Geology, Geophysics or a related field with a preference for M. Sc. or PhD. • Minimum 15 years experience in the search for hydrocarbons with extensive exploration experience. • Global experience (knowledge of a wide variety basins, plays, prospects, and depositional environments) and an ability to use this experience to objectively compare and contrast exploration opportunities. • Strong working knowledge of both clastic and carbonate stratigraphy with preference for expertise in clastic stratigraphy. • Extensive experience in the application of sequence stratigraphic principles to the search for oil and gas and an ability to integrate the stratigraphic concepts across the core, log, and seismic scales. • Deep understanding of prospect risk and resource estimation techniques as well as exposure to play fairway mapping and basin level screening studies. • A well-developed, practical ability to integrate across the earth science and engineering disciplines to develop a holistic understanding of exploration opportunities • A good understanding of exploration economics and the factors that influence exploration decision making. • Strong team-based facilitation skills and an ability to thrive in non-authoritative leadership roles. • Exposure to appraisal and development evaluations as well as to drilling operations is also preferred.
