Job offer description

All over the world, large (Heathrow, Schiphol), medium-sized and small airports depend on the advanced Baggage Handling Systems of Vanderlande. These physical systems are controlled by specific software that is developed in-house by Vanderlande. The software components that provide the high-level control are grouped in a suite of products called VIBES.

Your position

As a software engineer, your daily work involves technically challenging applications and projects where your code makes a direct contribution to the further development and upkeep of our VIBES suite and to its application in projects.

As a software engineer, we expect much more from you than just the ability to design and develop good software. We find it important that you possess an inherent drive to get the best out of yourself every day, that you are inquisitive and that you are not intimidated by situations which require you to branch off from the beaten track. You work together with colleagues in a SCRUM team. In addition, you have regular contact with other software teams, software architects, testers and end users. Good communication skills are therefore extremely important, as well as the ability to think pro-actively and suggest possible improvements. This gives you every opportunity to contribute your personal input and grow and develop within the department.

The often complex functionality of the software includes business logic, controls for logistical transport, communication with external computer systems, reporting, data analysis and simulation. This functionality is spread across the various components of the VIBES suite. You design, program and test the software based on a design concept and a set of requirements. In some cases, you will have to personally formulate these requirements together with the (end) users and/or internal stakeholders. The technologies used within this team are: UML, Java (SE, JEE, JPA, JMS), C# (WPF, WCF, MVVM), XML/XSD, SQL & PL/SQL.

Your department

You work at the company's head office in Veghel in the Software House Baggage Department.

This department is responsible for developing the VIBES suite, developing project specials and for configuring and supervising our software roll-outs all over the world.

Your profile

  • Higher Professional Education (HBO) qualification or University degree (WO)
  • Knowledge of and experience with Java and/or C# & WPF
  • Knowledge of XML/XSD and SQL
  • Knowledge of Linux, Windows and relational databases (ORACLE) is an advantage

Applying new technologies is a challenge for you in this position. You enjoy working as part of a team, are aware of your responsibilities and results-driven. Your analytical skills and resourcefulness serve as a basis for your career prospects within software development. An affinity for logistical system controls is an advantage.
