Senior Embedded Software Developer

 

Mind is Essensium's embedded software division, that provides Consultancy and Services in the field of Linux and Open Source software for Embedded Systems. Mind is one of the main players specialized in technical consulting, tool chain development, low-level, firmware and application development, training and support for Linux and Open Source software on the European market. Mind uses Free/Libre and Open Source Software (FLOSS) for most of its solutions, such as: GNU, Linux, Debian, Embedded Linux, μClinux, Android, Free BSD, NetBSD, RTEMS, eCos, FreeRTOS, Open Embedded, OpenWRT, Buildroot, Busybox, Qt, OpenGL, GStreamer, VLC, SDL, Cairo,  ideo4Linux, Mongoose, OpenSSL, OpenSSH, OpenSC, Gnome, Squid, etc.

 

Education:

 

Bachelor or Master degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline

 

Experience:

*  >4 years experience of C/C++programming in a Linux environment

*  Hands-on experience with the design constraints of an embedded system (limited memory footprint, real-time constraints, price, cpu- and io-performance, software upgrade,…)

*  Thorough understanding of the Linux kernel and its internals :

- Compilation and debugging (gcc, gdb) and related tool chains

-  Kernel modules + device drivers: character/block/network-drivers

-  Kernel – user-space communication

-  Bootloaders

-  Flash memory drivers and journaling file systems

· Strong affinity with processor-architecture, both 8/16-bit micro-controllers and CPU’s

· Hands-on experience with hardware interfaces (gpio, i2c, spi, pci,…)

· Experience in network programming

· Experience in other Embedded Operating Systems (RTEMS,eCos, pSOS, VxWorks, QNX,…) is a plus

· In-dept experience in networking stacks and multimedia frameworks is also a plus

· Good knowledge of English. Knowledge of Dutch or French is a plus.

 

Technical & communication skills:

· Self-starter, able to work autonomously, detail oriented, and ability to work

under pressure and short timelines.

· Team player with strong interpersonal, written and verbal skills.

· Result oriented and highly flexible (also with relation to tasks).

· Dynamic, start-up, and disruptive environment experience preferred.
