Job offer description

AMFConsulting is partnering with a global leader in the medical device sector in Galway to recruit a Senior Electrical Engineer. This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of complex electrical design projects, contribute to innovative Class II/III medical technologies, and play a key role in bringing life-enhancing products from concept to market.

This position offers broad technical exposure, cross-functional collaboration, and the chance to mentor junior engineers while working within a highly regulated, quality-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to the design, development, and testing of electrical systems and circuits for medical devices, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulatory and safety standards (e.g., IEC 60601).
  • Drive technical project planning: establish timelines, define deliverables, and proactively identify and mitigate risks.
  • Produce detailed specifications, schematics, PCB layouts, and supporting documentation.
  • Execute system-level integration of hardware, firmware, and software components.
  • Conduct risk assessments, troubleshoot complex electrical issues, and implement robust corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Manage engineering change control and maintain accurate design documentation including BOMs, drawings, and specifications.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and reliability teams to optimise designs for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
  • Support verification and validation activities to ensure device safety, reliability, and compliance.
  • Design and qualify functional and safety test systems for both product and PCB-level testing.
  • Investigate field returns; perform root-cause analysis and determine corrective actions.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing teams and key suppliers, improving yields and process capability.
  • Support internal and external audits relating to regulatory and quality compliance.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a collaborative, innovative engineering culture.
  • Keep up to date with advances in electrical engineering and emerging technologies relevant to medical device development.

Skills & Experience

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 4+ years’ electrical design experience, or 2+ years with a relevant advanced degree.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in medical devices or other highly regulated industries (aerospace, automotive, industrial, etc.).
  • Strong background in analog, digital, high-voltage, or RF circuit design.
  • Understanding of EMC design and testing principles, ideally per IEC 60601.
  • Experience with system-level hardware/firmware integration.
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping, debug, and PCB bring-up.
  • Experience designing hardware test systems for design verification or production testing.
  • Strong documentation skills (specifications, test plans, engineering reports).
  • Familiarity with PCB design and simulation tools (Altium, Cadence, MATLAB, SPICE, Minitab, etc.).
  • Knowledge of DFM/DFT principles; experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
