The research scientist will work on the development of microalgae technologies with special emphasis on the use of microalgae for wastewater treatment and production of high added value products and biogas. The research scientist will also work with development of methodologies for alleviating the ammonia toxicity effect on anaerobic digestion using advanced microbiological methods (bioaugmentation). Responsibilities and tasks The candidates are expected to have research experience in microalgae cultivation and characterization and at the same time on the anaerobic digestion process. The research scientist will be involved in national as well as international projects and is expected to participate in the development of new project proposals and to some extent in teaching. The candidates should have a goal-oriented approach and ability to work in large teams. Moreover, the candidates should be able to work independently. Qualifications The candidate is expected to have: •A PhD degree or equivalent in microbiology. •Post-doctoral experience in microalgae cultivation and anaerobic digestion. •Experience in the operation of photobioreactors and biogas reactors. •Experience in the characterization of microalgal biomass. •Strong knowledge of the microbiology and biochemistry of the anaerobic digestion process. Additional desirable qualifications are: •Knowledge of analytical methods (gas and liquid chromatography, Kjeldahl, COD, BOD etc.). •Molecular microbial community analysis (High-throughput 16S rRNA gene sequencing and analysis, total DNA random sequencing, fluorescence in-situ hybridization etc.). Assessment In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to •scientific production and research potential at international level •innovative skills and the ability to generate new ideas •the ability to communicate at all levels such as the provision of scientific advice to public sector authorities •experience in teaching and education •an all-round experience basis, preferably including international experience •the ability to contribute to development of the department’s internal and external cooperation We offer We offer an interesting and challenging job in an international environment focusing on education, research, public-sector consultancy and innovation, which contribute to enhancing the economy and improving social welfare.
