Job offer description

We are currently looking for a postdoctoral researcher to investigate the fabrication of solar cells based on an active layer of organometal halide perovskites. The intention is to develop highly efficient devices based on this novel PV technology with a potential to operate in tandem with conventional, smaller bandgap cells. Based on early results obtained in our research group already, the objective for this new position is threefold. Changing the chemical composition of the organometal halide perovskites has to be controlled, on the one hand to vary the bandgap towards a high-energy absorbing active material. On the other hand, replacement of the lead material has to be investigated too, still keeping the high efficiency. Unraveling the device physics is therefore needed to be able to harness the full potential of these new materials. For example, the primary excitation and the mechanisms for free-charge generation in perovskite remain unclear, as well as the charge transport mechanisms. Other aspects such as stability of this novel PV technology also need to be investigated. Imec has a long-standing tradition in PV R&D work and has therefore all infrastructure available to process perovskite-based photovoltaic devices with a good performance-transmittance product and characterize the morphology, the microstructure and the opto-electronic properties of every component layer of the solar cell, and to build up the understanding of the important factors in device efficiency.
