Intel has announced a major expansion of Intel's production capacities in Europe and plans to develop two first-of-their-kind semiconductor fabs in Magdeburg, Germany, the capital of Saxony-Anhalt. Planning has started, with construction expected to begin in the first half of 2023 and production planned to come online in 2027, subject to European Commission State aid approval and funding approval by the German authorities.

This position is the Process Engineer Department Manager of the Magdeburg, Germany greenfield mega-site: a large-scale, multi fab, 3000+ employee operation supporting Intel's internal and foundry wafer supply with production expected to start in 2027. This position reports to the Intel Vice President of Operations for the Magdeburg Site.

This role entails intensive planning & design efforts in various areas of this function, for this project and related projects.

Final location is Magdeburg site. Interim location of this role is Home Based Office until office premises will be available, ETA: Q4 2022

A Process Engineer Department Manager owns the project strategy execution for the green-field fabs at the Magdeburg site to start-up/ramp up the new technology, ensuring activities coordination to meet the project milestones and timeline. A Process Engineer Department Manager will be responsible for but not limited to: managing several Engineering Area Managers and up to 700 indirect reports (engineers and manufacturing technicians) tasked with ongoing process and equipment performance improvement responsibilities.

Key responsibilities:

  • Accountability for improving positive employee relations and all aspects of safety, quality, output capability, cost and productivity within their area of responsibility.

  • Leading Virtual Factory wide improvement initiatives and building strong relationships with their peers on the Magdeburg Site staff.

  • Driving sustainable improvements through robust systems development.

  • Participating in site management staff initiatives

  • Applying technical expertise within Semiconductor processing engineering to provide technical direction on quality, matching performance and yield improvement issues.

  • Applying functional areas knowledge (Lithography, Wet Etch, Dry Etch, Planar, Diffusion, EPI/Implant, Thin Films) for manufacturing process steps and skills to understand interactions with incoming and outgoing process modules.

  • Partnering with internal Intel support groups such as Global supply chain and operational corporate services to support and drive the functional areas business needs.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications and requirements:

  • Candidates must possess a BSc, MSc or PhD in Engineering or Science (e.g. physics, chemistry, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, material science, industrial engineering and another engineering/science-related field)

  • Substantial Process Engineering, Manufacturing experience or in other related engineering functional areas in 300mm semiconductor manufacturing with a similar scope and function

  • Significant Technology transfer and fab ramp experience with an emphasis on process tool installation and qualification

  • Substantial Fab engineering and manufacturing experience

  • Significant engineering management experience in large-scale organisation

  • Substantial strategic planning and management of process and equipment engineering organisation experience

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Strong stakeholder management skills

  • Fluency in the German language is essential

  • Candidate must be willing to relocate to Magdeburg
