With at least a 50% commitment, you will be part of the Healthcare Hygiene Unit within the Kalmar County Region, working alongside healthcare providers to prevent the spread of infections and to reduce the occurrence of healthcare-associated infections among patients, caregivers, and staff. You will play a pivotal role in coordinating and developing vital hygiene practices in close collaboration with hygiene nurses, where you will make strategic decisions and establish healthcare hygiene guidelines. A significant part of your role involves providing advice, teaching, and information to managers and healthcare staff. As a Hygiene Specialist, you will monitor current infection and resistance trends, and collaborate with leadership within the region, municipalities, and national groups. Your responsibilities will also include investigation and consultation during infection outbreaks. Communicating with the media and press may also be required.

 

This role is outward-facing, independent, and varied, where urgent issues and outbreaks are interspersed with more long-term and strategic hygiene work. Your work will cover activities within both the region and municipalities. We offer an introduction, job shadowing, and handover as part of a planned retirement transition. Through structured professional development, collaboration with other units, and networking, you will continue to develop in your role as a Hygiene Specialist with us.

 

A clinical or split role,  up to 50% within your specialty can be offered at one of our clinics. Part-time work or a combination with other tasks is possible, such as an Associate Infection Control Specialist up to 25% or research. Please specify any preferences in your application.

 

Our Workplace

As a Hygiene Specialist,  you will work in the Infection Control and Healthcare Hygiene department, Diagnostic Center, based in Kalmar. Healthcare Hygiene functions as a county-wide expert body supporting healthcare staff to provide safe and effective care. Your closest colleagues in Healthcare Hygiene include two hygiene nurses in Kalmar and two in Västervik. Our operations span the entire Kalmar County Region, with your primary base at the County Hospital in Kalmar. We meet daily via video conferences together with the department head and have close collaboration within the department, which includes an infection control specialist, associate infection control specialist, three infection control nurses, and a communications officer. The doctors cover for each other during holidays and short absences. Our digital working methods make it possible to work remotely at times.

 

At the Diagnostic Center, more than six million analyses, examinations, and treatments are conducted annually. Our county-wide operations are based at hospitals in Kalmar, Oskarshamn, and Västervik.  

We employ 260 staff across units including Clinical Pathology, Clinical Microbiology, Clinical Chemistry and Transfusion Medicine, Clinical Physiology and Nuclear Medicine, Infection Control and Healthcare Hygiene, and the Biobank and Tissue Center. We are a scientific competence center and active in several research areas. At the Diagnostic Center, we perform meaningful work of high quality and provide excellent service.

 

Your license needs to be recognized by the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare. 

Before moving to Sweden we recommend you to study the Swedish language up to B2-level, when you arrive we can provide further language studies in Swedish to reach C1 level.

Job requirements

We are seeking a licensed physician with specialist training in Infectious Diseases, Clinical Microbiology, Clinical Bacteriology, or Virology. Specialist competence in healthcare hygiene is advantageous. You should have strong collaborative skills, as well as the ability to work independently. Additionally, you should be outward-facing and interested in teaching and development work. The tasks require computer literacy and the ability to express yourself well in both speech and writing in Swedish. We place great importance on personal suitability.
