The position



The Life Science Business Unit within FEI provides valuable workflow solutions for biological research. The core of our offerings are solutions for 3D volume imaging ranging from atomic resolution imaging of protein complexes for structure determination to volume acquisitions of tissues for modelling of tissue function. These workflows combine different imaging modalities across different length scales to optimize experimental yield and ease-of-use.



The Product Marketing Manager (PMM) Application Software is responsible for all strategic and tactical activities that define and manage the application software landscape tying together the various instruments and workflows. It is aimed at strengthening and growing FEI’s presence on the market globally by optimally leveraging the current software offerings while acting as a driver for next generation solutions and architectures.



Responsibilities and deliverables include:

•Product and business development – Assess needs of customers and markets, develop business plans to create solutions that will gain market share and increase efficiencies across the software portfolio. Monitor business performance (incl. bookings, margin, and market position), identify issues and drive improvement actions together with the PMMs responsible for the individual workflows. ◦Collect Voice of the Customer (VoC) and Market Trends - Identify, document and communicate why customers buy and how they use FEI products to R&D and Sales. Provide feedback on new features needed in a market to the product lines. Identify, document and communicate market trends to all parts of the organization.

◦Innovation – Create the value proposition for innovative software solutions, new product ideas and new business models. Validate those with key customers. Develop an architecture and solutions roadmap.

◦Strategic Planning – Develop the overall strategy for application software and implement Marketing Plans, in the context of FEI’s Product Management Process (PMP). Track requirements, priority settings and project execution.

◦Marketing (Launch) Plan Execution – Complete regular reviews of objectives versus plan to deliver quarterly and long term business objectives. Review key metrics to ensure achievement of the marketing plan and on-time product launches.

◦Sales Support – Maintain relationships with key customers and works to develop them into reference customers to help sales in a region or globally. Supporting new product sales promotions in the field with direct customer interaction, commercial and technical presentations and collateral.

◦Manage relationships with internal stakeholders, act as the primary point of contact to the Application Software Group. Integrate the requirements from different workflows into release plans to ensure winning products.

 

Requirements & Skills

The Requirements:



This position is ideal for a candidate with experience in product (marketing) management of application software in the context of capital equipment in the life sciences. The successful candidate is an experienced professional who thrives in a dynamic team, can drive market development and enjoys being exposed to a constant variety of complex issues that need to be resolved.



The successful candidate will possess the following combination of education, experience and skills:

•University degree in a relevant scientific field (Biology, Biochemistry or medical sciences), PhD preferred◦In-depth knowledge of imaging techniques and image analysis software solutions

◦In-depth knowledge of Agile software development processes and successful track record in efficient requirement management

◦Knowledge of software license models and their commercial implications

◦Proven experience in developing business cases, establishing new business models and successfully executing complex projects

◦Experience in interacting with highly technical customers and customer groups

◦The ability to envision new opportunities and to drive their implementation to achieve continuous business improvement

◦Excellent communication ability (both written and verbal) and influencing skills including the ability to communicate complex concepts to a variety of audiences is critical to the success in this position

◦Successful candidate has a strong drive for results and an ability to work within a diverse, cross-functional and multi-cultural team across multiple sites

◦Willing and able to travel internationally

◦Typically requires (P40) 7-10 years of experience in marketing, product management or applications management in a relevant environment. (P50: 10, Director level: 12+)
