The Danish Technical University has a vacancy for a Senior Development Engineering position with the DTU-TotalEnergies Excellence Center in Clean Energy (DTEC) at DTU Risø Campus. DTEC is a mission driven to support research and development on a wide range of clean energy activities.

Core to DTEC is the development and operation of a state-of-the-art hybrid power plant (HPP) facility at the DTU Risø campus integrating a number of clean energy technologies together for providing electricity production, storage and even power-to-x applications. This senior development engineer will have the main responsibility for the plant development and operation assisting the Head of Center and senior research staff at DTEC.

Responsibilities and tasks

Your work will mainly be focused on the hybrid power plant facility development and use in research applications. Specific tasks will include:

  • Facility engineer responsible for support of DTEC HPP pilot facility development and facility use
    • Contribute to the specifications of assets such as storage and PtX and to test equipment including a controllable grid interface to be able to connect the HPP to real time simulated grid conditions
    • Coordinate the delivery and commissioning in collaboration with suppliers and DTEC research staff
    • Contribute to the system integration and plant level control of the included technologies in collaboration with DTEC research staff
    • Contribute to performing power system studies on the HPP, including power flow, voltage control, dynamic analysis, fault ride through, stability and harmonic studies in collaboration with DTEC research staff
    • Execute test methods to verify grid compliance of technical systems in collaboration with research staff
    • Execute ongoing instruction and support of facility use in collaboration with research staff
    • Support development of facility use protocols and oversee all facility us
    • Coordinate the access to the facility between the research and commercial users
    • contribute as needed to the health and safety requirement of the facilit
    • Manage ongoing facility maintenance as needed
  • Support DTEC Opal-RT systems and overall emulation/communication activities for DTEC HPP and the converter-based laboratory
    • Contribute to the development of the converter-based laboratory setup

In addition, you are also expected to contribute to the support of overall center administration:

  • Support the Head of Center on project portfolio management and financial administration
  • Contribute as needed to the ongoing projects with reporting and administration
  • Contribute as needed to DTU committees on facilities management and operation (e.g. Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) committee, IT committee, etc)
  • Ensure center is compliant with regulations, processes and practices of DTU facility operations

Qualifications

The degree should be a BSc or MSc in the field of electrical power engineering or similar. You should have a minimum of 5-6 years of relevant work experience as aligned with above defined responsibilities.

The ideal candidate profile includes the following:

  • Documented hands-on experience with design and operation of electrical power systems/plants
  • Documented experience with grid code compliance and standards for electrical systems and communications [e.g. IEC, IEEE] 
  • Experience with control and protection systems 
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary and highly collaborative environment in complex projects
  • Flexibility to support multiple projects
  • Ability and desire to interact with industrial stakeholders
  • Fluency in communicating and reporting in English. Danish language skills are an advantage, but not a requirement

It is beneficial to have:

  • Experience with real-time simulation and HIL
  • Experience with renewable energy plants operation and control
  • Understanding of power electronics control 
  • Documented experience with power system simulation tools (e.g. Simulink, PowerFactory)
  • Experience working with communications systems for electrical systems
  • Experience with renewable energy control systems
  • Experience with automation

It is important that you are open-minded, responsible, ready to engage in a team and have good communication skills. You are expected to start as soon as possible.

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The position as a senior development engineer is a permanent position.
