To succeed in our mission, we are looking for a Design Engineer to strengthen our System Design team. The location for this position is our office in Helsinki, and the role requires some work on-site.
What does a Design Engineer do?
As a Design engineer, you are responsible for system design for our Quality Gate inspection systems during their project delivery phase. This includes completing system design according to the customer and Mapvision specifications and producing required drawings, models, and documentation. You will be selecting the appropriate components according to guidelines and specifications to go with your design. Hardware configuration for project deliveries is part of your responsibilities as a member of the project team. As a Design Engineer, you are involved also in the assembly phase as a proactive and hands-on team member, working for instance with advanced fixture assembly, testing and verification (i.e. configuring hardware such as variable-frequency drives, field-bus valve terminals and other automation devices, CMM measuring part holding fixtures and measuring and adjusting clamping forces for pneumatic clamping systems). You will get the opportunity to work closely with our customers during the project phase and respond to their Technical queries as part of the project team. As the expert in Mapvision system design, you will also support our teams internally across the organization when needed.
What is the team like and what do we do?
The System Design team is tightly working with our Project Management and Engineering team to ensure the timely deliveries of our systems according to customer specifications. The team is led by Mika, our Head of System Design and as team member, you will have three Design Engineers, one Senior Design Engineer and one Systems Engineer. Working on projects as a team or individually, this team is also participating in product development activities aiming to take our hardware to the next level. Our Design Engineers are a frequent sight on the production floor, working together with our Assembly Technicians and Project Engineers.

At Mapvision, our working language is English, which you will be using daily in both spoken and written formats. As many of our customers are German-speaking, knowledge of German is an advantage but is not required.
In terms of the technical skills, we hope you have a good command of some combination of the following skills:
- Mechanical design (Fixtures/tooling, mechanisms, machine safety)
- Design for manufacturability (3 & 5 axis milling, turning, welding, sheet metal)
- 3D-CAD systems (Siemens NX)
- PDM systems (Siemens Teamcenter)
- Metrology (CMM measuring, part holding)
- Pneumatics
- Automation and control electrics
