Haugesund Hospital has a medical department (including paediatrics and neonatal), a surgical department (including obstetrics and gynaecology and fertility), a psychiatric department and radiological, clinical chemistry, microbiology and pathological department.
The department of medicine includes Internal medicine with most of the specialities within this field as well as neurology, rehabilitation and simulation centre- for training and recertification.
The department is certified and is part of the training programme for junior doctors within the specialities of internal medicine, nephrology, cardiology, respiratory medicine, gastroenterology, endocrinology, haematology and geriatrics.
Within the department of Internal medicine, we have 16 doctors in training and 20 consultants.
Nephrology is organised under the medical department A. This department has 14 beds, 7 of them specifically earmarked for patients with kidney diseases. In addition there is a dialysis department with haemodialysis (approx. 30 patients), peritoneal dialysis (approx. 5 patients) and the department also has the responsibility of overviewing the dialysis department at Odda Hospital and the dialysis- satellite unit in Sauda. A big portion of the activity in this department is the outpatient department. Totally this department encompasses most of the diseases and conditions within the field of nephrology and has a very good professional environment. With broad based novel nephrological activity, acute and chronic dialysis, monthly kidney biopsy MDT meetings, plasmapheresis and lipidaferese.
We have as pr today 2 nephrology consultant positions, 2 junior doctors in training – nephrology registrar positions. There is as of now no organised dialysis oncall rotation. There is an extensive research activity within nephrology, in the department there are 2 doctors within the section who are undertaking a PhD.
One is expected to be part of the joint internal medical take rotation and duties- oncall rotation. This is part of the job description. This will entail being oncall potentially on other internal medical wards when oncall.
Oncall duties as well as day work on the wards and outpatient and dialysis unit
Consultants have a 1:15 oncall rotation
