Training duration and key subjects
The training consists of a three year curriculum combining on-the-job training at our hotel with classes at the nearby vocational school. Key subjects include:
- producing and preparing food
- professional handling of kitchen tools and equipment
- essentials on the nutritional, economical and ecological aspects of food preparation
- hygiene requirements
- product presentation
- guest relations
Vocational school
Periods of on-the-job training alternate with classroom sessions at the Pirmasens Vocational School, with each period lasting several weeks.
Your professional perspectives
Chefs start their careers as ‘commis de cuisine’ or kitchen assistant and can progress all the way to Executive Chef or F&B (food and beverage) Manager. A career as Chef can lead to an attractive variety of working environments, including not only restaurants and bars, hotels and resorts, but also all manners of residential or industrial canteens or even cruise ships. And a solid training is of course the best foundation when you plan to open your own business.
