Helgelandssykehuset HF consists of three local hospitals (located in Mo i Rana, Mosjøen and Sandnessjøen). The hospitals are organised in a trust which may be considered as “centralised-decentralised”. The ophthalmology unit is located at Mosjøen hospital and is responsible for the ophthalmology needs of the entire Helgeland area. The unit treats apporoximately 1500 patients per year with around 600 patients having surgery. The unit conducts examinations and treatments of general eye diseases and surgery such as cataract, tear duct and plastic surgery. The unit has also nurses who assist during operations and consultations.
