Production Engineer - BAT Trieste
As a Production Engineer at BAT, you will manage production equipment projects to drive continuous improvements in our manufacturing processes. This role focuses on executing projects within budget and on schedule, optimizing production efficiency, and upholding BAT’s high standards of safety, quality, and operational excellence. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams and engage with OEMs and suppliers to ensure optimal equipment performance, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and ESG-minded operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Management & Process Improvement:
- Plan, coordinate, and implement production improvement projects.
- Support machine modifications, installations, and process optimizations across the factory.
- Lead equipment comparisons and recommend process improvements based on production data.
- Collaborate with engineering to maintain an updated library of equipment manuals and catalogues.

Drive supplier and OEM partnerships to meet both immediate and long-term production needs.
Maintenance & Safety:
- Work closely with maintenance leads to advance corrective, preventive, and predictive maintenance.
- Benchmark best practices with other factories to enhance production efficiency.
- Promote safe work practices, ensuring compliance with LOTO procedures and quality standards.

Support breakdown analysis and elimination through structured problem-solving methodologies.
Team Coaching & Documentation:
- Provide coaching to technicians and operators to build capability and adherence to technical documentation standards.
- Assist in the development of maintenance documentation and train team members on SAP PM module for maintenance.

Inspire the team by modeling BAT’s guiding principles and fostering a zero-loss culture.
Technical Skills & Experience:
- University degree in Engineering or related field (preferred 3+ years of study).
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment, with a strong grasp of mechanical processes.
- Demonstrated knowledge in project management and familiarity with manufacturing standards (SS, EN, ISO).
- Hands-on experience with safety protocols, including LOTO procedures and training in hazardous work.
- Proficiency in MS Office; CAD software skills are a plus.
Leadership & Interpersonal Skills:
- Excellent communication skills in both Italian and English, with the ability to present to groups.
- Strong interpersonal skills, fostering team collaboration and effective coaching.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage competing needs, and drive changes for continuous improvement.

Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills:
- Strong analytical skills, able to interpret technical data and drive data-based recommendations.

Familiarity with problem-solving tools such as fishbone diagrams, 5 Whys, and RCA for effective troubleshooting.

- Successfully deliver projects within budget and timelines, minimizing production downtime.
- Meet CAPEX targets and improve the handover process for new and modified equipment.
- Implement improvements to reduce production downtime by applying learnings from incident analysis.
- Ensure that equipment changes meet BAT safety and CE marking standards.
