Senior Quality Engineer

 

Weltec Engineering is a leading provider of Mechanical & Electrical contracting services in Ireland. We take pride in our commitment to quality, safety, and excellence. As we continue to grow, we are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Senior Quality Engineer to join our team for projects in the East and Southeast of the country.

 

The Senior Quality Engineer will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and reliability of our products and processes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in quality control and assurance, as well as a proven track record of driving continuous improvement initiatives.

 

Role/Responsibilities:

  • Conduct system and process quality audits to ensure compliance with established quality standards and procedures.
  • Perform Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) to identify potential risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Provide quality awareness and systems training to team members to enhance understanding and adherence to quality processes.
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions (WIs) to standardize and improve quality processes.
  • Lead the development of quality improvement programs to enhance overall product quality and process efficiency.
  • Prepare for ISO 9001 certification and surveillance audits, ensuring compliance with ISO standards.
  • Develop a Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) model to identify and reduce quality-related costs.
  • Liaise with all internal departments to drive continual improvements and ensure cross-functional alignment on quality initiatives.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and sub-contractors on all quality-related issues, fostering strong quality partnerships.
  • Continuously analyze quality metrics to identify concerns and trends and implement corrective actions to drive continuous improvement.
  • Utilize problem-solving tools such as 8D, Ishikawa Diagrams, brainstorming, and FMEA to identify and implement sustainable solutions to quality concerns.
  • Analyze and provide feedback on all quality information from Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and ISO audits to drive effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Continually assess suppliers and sub-contractors for quality performance.
  • Review and approve action requests, ensuring effective documentation and implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Assist and support the Quality Manager in achieving contract quality objectives.
  • Oversee incoming inspection related to Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) requirements.
  • Manage incoming inspection and shipping processes, ensuring compliance with quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate records related to inspection and update as necessary.
  • Review revised drawings against current versions to identify gaps and release approved ISO and bracket packs to the OSM areas.
  • Oversee spool inspection, weld log documentation review, and approval.
  • Manage spool drawing printing and attach forms identifying lines as part of the shipping process.
  • Conduct delivery inspections and communicate relevant information to the site, including photos and documentation.
  • Provide training on SOPs, forms, and processes to ensure understanding and compliance.
  • Oversee material storage and provide guidance on proper storage practices.
Job requirements

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
  • 5+ yrs. experience in quality engineering, with at least 3 years in a senior or lead role.
  • Strong knowledge of quality management systems (ISO 9001, etc.).
  • Experience with statistical analysis and quality tools (Six Sigma, Lean).
  • Proficiency in quality software and tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team.
