Intel has announced a major expansion of Intel's production capacities in Europe and plans to develop two first-of-their-kind semiconductor fabs in Magdeburg, Germany, the capital of Saxony-Anhalt. Planning has started, with construction expected to begin in the first half of 2023 and production planned to come online in 2027, subject to European Commission State aid approval and funding approval by the German authorities.

This position is the Equipment Planning and Coordination of Team (EPCoT) Department Manager of the next Germany greenfield mega-site: a large-scale, multi fab, 3000+ employee operation supporting Intel's internal and foundry wafer supply with production expected to start in 2027.

Final location is Magdeburg site. Interim location of this role is Home Based Office until office premises will be available, ETA: Q4 2022

This position reports to the Intel Vice President of Operations for the Magdeburg Site. The EPCoT Department Manager owns the project strategy for the new fabs at the Magdeburg site, from design to start-up/ramp of the new technology, ensuring activities coordination to meet the project milestones and timeline. This role entails intensive planning & design efforts in various areas of this function, for this project and related projects.

The EPCoT Department Manager will be responsible for but not limited to: owning the fab equipment installation and qualification processes to enable fab ramp goals.

Once hired, this person might temporarily relocate to Israel or Ireland or perhaps to the US sites for training assignments from 6 months to a year.

Key responsibilities:

  • Mapping and implementing continuous improvements for the overall Magdeburg site EPCoT capability, ensuring the tactical and strategic site installation and qualification processes and reporting systems meet the capacity ramp needs of the site.

  • Integrating the capabilities of the site construction, installation, and qualification to deliver new capacity equipment systems in high quality and safe manner and on time for the successful capacity ramp of the factory.

  • This role requires a highly integrated knowledge of fab operations, engineering, capacity assessment, corporate services, construction and tool install integration to make tactical and strategic decisions for the factory as a whole.

  • To maintain a high degree of alignment on these decisions, this role will need to develop a high level of influence and leadership with his/her Department Manager peers, factory and support organizations (FCE, CS, GSC, and TMG SP) and factory management, both within Magdeburg and across the VF.

  • The successful candidate will also mentor the site EPCoT, process engineering, and FCE leadership to establish the processes and best known methods for successfully completing the install and qualification of new capacity to meet designated ramp milestones.

  • Demonstrating competence in project management, engineering, industrial engineering, operations, corporate services, construction, safety, organizational development and people management.

  • Demonstrating capability to utilize experts from multiple technical and business fields to synthesize complex and robust solutions in a high-volume manufacturing environment.

  • Demonstrating understanding of factory operations/disciplines and the ability to integrate them.

  • Demonstrating proficiency in applying project management and Lean thinking, tools, and systems to build a learning organization as well as developing high performing teams. The successful candidate will be able to develop the future Install/Qual leaders of Magdeburg.

  • Leading in an environment with frequent and dynamic challenges.

  • Managing stakeholders across organizational boundaries including process engineering, construction and corporate services.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications and requirements:

  • Candidates must possess a BSc, MSc or PhD in Engineering or Science (e.g. physics, chemistry, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, material science, industrial engineering and another engineering/science-related field).

  • Substantial Process Engineering, Manufacturing experience or in other related engineering functional areas in 300mm semiconductor manufacturing with a similar scope and function.

  • Significant Technology transfer and fab ramp experience with an emphasis on process tool installation and qualification.

  • Substantial Fab engineering and manufacturing experience with leading/legacy tech-nodes.

  • Significant engineering management experience in large-scale organization.

  • Significant experience in Construction and Corporate Services domains.

  • Substantial strategic planning and management of process and equipment engineering organization experience.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills.

  • Strong model-based problem solving, and Project Management skills.

  • Fluency in the German language is essential.

  • Candidate must be willing to relocate to Magdeburg.
